Branding is the choice to make a belonging permanent, not through words, not through a symbolic ritual that fades in time, but through the flesh. It is the ceremony of someone who has decided that an experience should last forever, visible on the skin every day, every time you look at it. Not an aesthetic whim. Not an impulsive gesture. The design is chosen together with care and attention: conceived like a piece of skin jewellery, calibrated to the specific anatomy of the person who will receive it, charged with a meaning that belongs to that precise link. Nothing is left to chance. The ceremony is built slowly, and this construction has a weight of its own.
The moment of the act itself is an instant of total suspension. The heat meets the skin, and in that instant pain, absolute presence and the lucid, strangely calm awareness of going through something irreversible by one's own deliberate choice coexist.
It is not something one undergoes. It is something one goes through. Distinction is everything.
The healing in the days and weeks that follow becomes a daily ritual: the care of the skin, the observation of the transformation, the way the sign slowly emerges in its final form. Every time one looks at that sign, over the years, in ordinary life, at any time, one relives not only the moment of the act. One relives one's own ability to have chosen it.
